A koi (Japanese carp) is said to bravely swim up rivers and climb waterfalls, much like a samurai warrior. It is also said that if a koi is caught, it remains motionless under the knife, facing its death with courage like a samurai facing a sword.
The Koi Wakizashi from Paul Chen of Hanwei has a hand-forged blade made from high-carbon T10 steel, which has been differentially hardened using a traditional clay method.
This samurai sword is mounted in black and white and features black sama (ray skin). The tsuka-ito is made of premium white Japanese cotton.
The black iron tsuba is decorated with a finely drawn koi with real front and back details. The accessories are beautifully distressed, which adds to the aesthetic of the piece.
The saya features a deep black lacquer finish and a black and white striped cotton sageo. The Koi Wakizashi is supplied with a protective fabric bag and a traditional maintenance kit.
