What is a tactical flashlight?

Simply put, a tactical flashlight is a specialized, high-performance version of a traditional flashlight. They were designed for use by police and military to help them identify targets and use their weapons in low light conditions. As such, tactical flashlights have many design details and unique features that set them apart from the ones you keep at home.

To keep things simple, here are three features you need when shopping for your own tactical flashlight.

First of all, your flashlight should be durable. Police officers and soldiers need their flashlight to work in all conditions, especially during critical moments that can mean the difference between life and death. And in self-defense situations, that's exactly what you need to have in your tactical flashlight.

Metal lamps are among the most durable because they are shock, water and dust resistant.

Second, your tactical flashlight should be bright. A regular flashlight typically produces between 10 and 25 lumens, with some "high power" models emitting up to 100 lumens. While this is more than enough to illuminate something at night, it's not quite enough for tactical use.

A typical tactical flashlight is rated to put out well over 500 lumens, with some going as high as 1000 lumens. This is what you should look for when looking for a tactical flashlight.

Finally, your flashlight should be practical. Since you will be using it for self-defense, you need to choose one that is easy to carry and quick to light. While the ideal size of a tactical flashlight is a matter of personal preference, I suggest looking for a tactical flashlight that has a push button. A button flashlight is the easiest and quickest to turn on in a stressful situation, which is very important in a self-defense situation or during a game of airsoft.

The tactical flashlight is arguably one of the most underrated "tactical" tools available on the market today. Functioning as a deterrent, blinding tool, and improvised weapon, a tactical flashlight gives you many more options for defending yourself than the typical pocket knife or pepper spray.

What are the different possible uses of a tactical light?

1. Illumination

Tactical flashlights come in small sizes, convenient to carry in your purse, backpack, or simply in your pocket. This means that if you find yourself walking home alone at night and feel unsafe, or simply in an area that doesn't feel safe, you can walk with the flashlight in your hands and when your path becomes too dark, you can light it up quite easily. With a tactical flashlight and reducing the beam field, you can cover a good distance.

Not only does this help with safety from potential muggers or thieves, but it also helps ensure that you can walk down a path knowing that every step you take won't be a sprained ankle or invisible hole that you would have seen if it had been lit.

2. In case of emergency

There's no doubt that when the power goes out, the first thing we all reach for is a flashlight. Usually it's somewhere in the back of a kitchen cupboard or under the sink. Or maybe you have an emergency kit that you have prepared for emergencies like this? Personally, I usually keep my flashlight in my pocket, which saves me from fumbling around in the dark and finding furniture with my shins.

3. As a Multi-Purpose Tool

One of the design specifications of a tactical flashlight is to be sturdy and durable. Many current brands of tactical flashlights have versions that are used by law enforcement and the military. For example, a large lamp can be used as a weapon thanks to its hard exterior and long, thick handle. However, thanks to the jagged edges that law enforcement-made tactical flashlights have, they can be used to break a car window, whether getting in or out of a car in a hurry.

4. Report help
When you find yourself in an emergency situation, get lost or need to signal drivers on the road that they need help, the main things we have available are sound by shouting and movement by waving hands. However, a flashlight can replace many of these functions when they become unusable at night. Using your hand in front of a flashlight, or a flashlight on a phone, can signal your need for rescue to people in the surrounding area, especially when pointed in the direction of the likely path of potential rescuers or research teams.

Plus if you learn SOS Morse code using your flashlight. This will not only save you from enemies but also help you in unexpected situations. It may take you a little time to get used to Morse code, but it's worth it.

After all that has been said, it’s safe to say that you now have a better understanding of what exactly a tactical flashlight is. Furthermore, it is obvious that a tactical flashlight is not an ordinary flashlight. Nevertheless, these flashlights are of the highest quality and although they are designed for professional use, they are also ideal for everyday carry or to keep around the house.
