History
Many Japanese swords and katanas offered on the market today are parade copies of weapons from the Japanese feudal era.
These sabres, katanas and swords were made for warriors of average height, around 1.67 meters for the tallest.
As beautiful and full of craftsmanship as they are, Japanese swords such as katanas are not best suited to modern warriors, who are often taller and with stronger builds.
Material quality
The materials used have also changed, since today we know how to select better quality steels, technological advances have allowed us to better control the steel manufacturing and purification processes. The industrial era supplanted traditional craftsmanship for obvious reasons of cost, larger scale production, and quality.
With all these criteria in mind, Cold Steel created the Dragonfly series, featuring stronger, wider and thicker blades than the historic versions.
These beautiful swords are distinguished by their Tsuka (handle) in (samé) ray skin with a (ito), magnificent braiding in turquoise blue silk.
Dragonfly
A Mekugi anklet topped with a central ornament (Menuki) in finely gilded Dragonfly steel. This ornament gives its name to Wakizashi.
Blade: cutting power
The curved blade is made from high carbon 1060 steel for maximum strength and resistance, and hardens on its exterior while having a softer core. This double composition of steel gives it much greater resistance during shocks, and ensures a sharp edge. This blade is hand polished and ends with a kissaki, that is to say an iris leaf-shaped tip for perfect cutting power.
