Raptor Katana Unokubi Zukuri - Hanwei

The blade design of the Raptor Katana Unokubi-Zukuri ( cormorant neck), also known as Nagamaki Naoshi , was inspired from the stylistic form of this model. It is a powerful sword with a long handle, famous during the 12th and 14th centuries.

Notable for its strongly marked shinogi-ji (this is the ridge line where the katana passes from the inclined part that constitutes the edge to the flat surface of the blade).

In addition, its diamond-shaped kissaki is splendid, this Japanese term defines the tip of the blade of a katana, the Unokubi-Zukuri therefore ensures perfect balance thanks to its sharp and powerful blade.

The Nagamaki Naoshi was the ancestor of the Naginata , which had a shape quite similar to that of a falchid, so this is why the katanas keep a slightly curved shape. The Nagamaki Naoshi were used by the Bushis (warriors) or the Ashigarus , also called "light-footed", because they were poorly equipped infantry in terms of armor. This weapon made it possible to intercept opposing riders equipped with bows or tachi (ancestor of the katana).

Established by cutting master James Williams, the Raptor range was created with the aim of serving those who practice cutting but who do not necessarily have access to special cutting mats and bamboos, but who nevertheless wish to practice and perfect their cutting techniques.

The blades were forged from 5160 steel, heat treated to guarantee significant impact resistance as well as greater tolerance to involuntary or unexpected cuts than a conventional blade. The steel structure of the blade also avoids the need for excessive thickness, allowing the blades to perfectly transcribe the weight and handling characteristics of the katana, of the original Japanese models. The design of the cutting edge is configured in such a way that it facilitates the cutting of malleable and medium-hard elements without deterioration, which offers a wide range of targets.

Each katana in the series features a unique blade style, each with its origins in the history of Japanese sword making, providing the practitioner with choices in aesthetics and maneuverability.
