The Cold Steel Cutlass machete is inspired by the 1917 Cutlass saber, a regulatory weapon of the US Navy. It has a rigid 1055 carbon steel blade, ideal for cutting vines, brambles, clearing wild greenery, recommended in the forest, essential in the jungle. A useful tool for making your way to your favorite fishing spot through blackberry thickets or incidentally for fending off enemy hordes.
The cleaver is equipped with a steel-reinforced handguard and a sturdy Cor-Ex scabbard and is ready for the next adventure, whether on land or at sea.
Compared to the ordinary CS cutlass, the machete is handled more quickly because it is lighter, it is more durable thanks to the overmolded guard and handle (the guard, handle and blade being cut from a single piece of 1055 carbon steel) and it cuts better thanks to its thinner cross section - much better with the blade shoulders a little lower. In movement, it feels closer to the 1917 sabers, which hits with power but is a bit clunky. The heat treatment is very good (which was good on the other CS blades mentioned as well, but the machetes are really well treated). It is also a good point, more than sufficient for a cutlass blade (not too flexible, nice clip point).
I think that cutlass machetes are the best in terms of quality and price. Great durability, exceptional sharpness after a little reprofiling, very good handling and an unbeatable price.
