The medieval man-at-arms was a brave, loyal fighter full of warlike heroism who mastered a variety of weapons with great skill. A veteran of countless battles, often the first on the battlefield, although not a knight, he fought and trained alongside them like a brother in arms. In honor of these tough and dedicated traveling soldiers, Cold Steel® created the Man at Arms Weapons Collection.

Compared to the premium versions of Cold Steel®, these combat-ready weapons do not have the usual shiny blades and silver steel elements, but in terms of quality and performance, the MAA series products come close to other products. The blued, fully sharpened blades are characterized by their inimitable metallic appearance, which harmonizes perfectly with the black handles. And when properly oiled, they reveal their inherent, radiant beauty.


The era of the longsword spanned almost three centuries (from approximately 1350 to 1650) and no doubt because it did such an excellent job! This sword had a characteristic cross hilt, a long double-edged blade and was suitable for facing both light and heavily armed enemies. Its particularly long blade provided the reach and leverage needed for powerful stabbing and slashing strikes, while its long quillons and heavy pommel could be used as striking weapons and could also be used to snag and unbalance the opponent or to control his weapon.

This recreation by Cold Steel® was designed based on the design of Italian swords. If the blade and the center of gravity are more oriented towards shock attacks, the edges are also surprisingly effective. In addition, the simply designed cross-shaped vessel, with its long downward-curving quillons and fishtail compensating pommel, offers all the possibilities of sword fighting.

1090 carbon steel is an excellent choice for large fixed blades. It can be easily sharpened and retains that edge, while remaining strong enough to withstand the most brutal tests. In short: a good all-round carbon steel that remains very durable even with heavy use.
