In the mid-17th century, dueling was at the height of its popularity. This method of settling honorary matters with the sword was so widespread that French King Louis XIII outlawed dueling by law, for fear of losing too many of his important dignitaries in this dangerous endeavor!
The nobles considered it their duty as men, their honor with the sword, to defend it. Therefore, they not only consulted experienced teachers to develop their knowledge and skills in sword fighting, but also researched new types of weapons in order to gain a decisive advantage. A particular sword began to gain popularity - a smaller, lighter and faster version of the rapier, more comfortable to wear and more agile in battle. This variant was a precursor of the gala or Hofdegens (in the English language as a small sword - Small Sword - known).
Cold Steels®' interpretation of this weapon, the horseman's rapier (basically the horseman's sword) has a double-edged, very sharp blade that is significantly shorter and lighter and therefore more agile and maneuverable than a rapier classic.
The perforated hardened steel guard , rings, parade elements and handle bar provide surprisingly good protection for the hand, while the wire handle and compensating pommel ensure maximum comfort and maneuverability.
Delivery includes a hand-sewn leather scabbard with steel muzzle plate and clevis and integrated belt hook for optimal wearing comfort.
1055 carbon steel
The carbon content and relatively low proportions of other substances in this steel make it a very stable material and free from the brittleness inherent in most high carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that must have high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes and swords.
