CobraTec Knives presents its new Karambit Black. This knife is equipped with a high-quality, CNC-machined T6061 aeronautical aluminum handle and a D2 Stonewash steel blade.
Cobratec knives have come a long way in recent years. They, in my opinion, started out as a low end OTF manufacturer... However, I think they have come a long way and are now exceeding the QC and overall quality of other major manufacturers.
Compared directly to an Ultratech, I feel like D2 steel is directly comparable to 204P when it comes to sharpness and longevity. The blade is polished, sharpening has been done regularly. These are incredibly sharp blades.
Let me elaborate - We are resellers and as such we know the difference between the 204P and the D2. That being said, as a reseller, I feel like the quality of the blades on some higher end knives is not what it used to be. Cobratec D2 steel is well processed, sharpened and polished. The blades are phenomenal and we haven't had any particular issues yet. That's why I feel like they are comparable products. Again, I'm not comparing steels, I'm comparing fit, finish and quality of blades.
The lockup on the Cobratecs is fantastic, the spring weight and snap are all there. I find oiling the control switch to be very helpful - It can be a little stiff, but the pop and force of the knife deploying is strong.
We have 5 new Ultratechs in stock and I would say the lock of the Cobratec exceeds that of the Microtech. It's sturdier and although there is slight movement, the lock is so strong that I'm confident in its retention.
The retention of the ring is fantastic.
It's in the mid-range that the quality of the finish really picks up and they are simply very stylish. Their high-end product like the Cobra is absolutely fantastic - the carbon looks great and the logos are laser engraved impeccably.
