An MFAL is a multi-function aiming laser like a DBAL or an ATPIAL. They have several functions. Generally, a laser sight is just a single or dual laser system. What makes them multi-functional is the addition of an infrared illuminator. Not all MFALs have a visible illuminator like the Holosun LS321G which has a VIS green laser, infrared laser designator/pointer, infrared laser illuminator.
Looking at the photo above, the selector has two power settings. If you turn the switch to the left from OFF, you access the low power laser. VL - Weak visible laser. IRL = Weak infrared laser. Turning the switch to the right takes you to the H settings for the high power laser. VH and IRH are the higher power settings for the respective visible and infrared laser designators/pointers. It provides access to the infrared laser illuminator. And the last setting allows you to enable IRH and IL simultaneously
