The Filipino Bolo sword or knife comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. The sword that served as the model for this project comes from the private family collection of guru Dan Inosanto. This historical model, a type of Boloschwert known as the Talibon, is renowned for having evolved over time into a fearsome weapon like the Kris, Barong, Kampilan and even the Japanese Katana.
This weapon was widely used by the brave Filipino soldiers who fought alongside the United States during World War II and the Korean War. Of these 260,000 original Filipino soldiers, approximately 17,000 veterans are still alive today. Cold Steel® will donate 10% of profits from the sale of this sword to the charity The Filipino Veterans Recognition and Education Project for the purchase of replica Congressional Gold Medal of Honor for surviving veterans and their families.
1055 carbon steel
The carbon content and relatively low proportions of other substances in this steel make it a very stable material and free from the brittleness inherent in most high carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that are meant to have high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes and swords.
