The medieval man-at-arms was a brave, loyal fighter full of warlike heroism who mastered a variety of weapons with great skill. A veteran of countless battles, often the first on the battlefield, although not a knight, he fought and trained alongside them like a brother in arms. In honor of these tough and dedicated traveling soldiers, Cold Steel® created the Man at Arms Weapons Collection.

Compared to the premium versions of Cold Steel®, these combat-ready weapons do not have the usual shiny blades and silver steel elements, but in terms of quality and performance, the MAA series products come close to other products. The blued, fully sharpened blades are characterized by their inimitable metallic appearance, which harmonizes perfectly with the black handles. And when properly oiled, they reveal their inherent, radiant beauty.


Known in Germany as the Great Knife, this sword was used in ancient times throughout central and northern Europe by junkers and farmers to protect home and hearth from highwaymen, murderers, bandits and other people of bad reputation. Thanks to its wide, majestic blade and generous handle, it could be used with one or two hands.

This version of this simple and elegant, but particularly powerful, weapon has a sharpened blade, hand forged in 1055 carbon steel. The quillons and the majestic pommel are in blued steel. The scales of the wooden handle are riveted to the tang, which is forged all the way to the pommel.

A beautiful, sturdy leather sheath ensures comfort and safety. Matching the quillons and the pommel, the scabbard is reinforced by a cap and a muzzle guard in blued steel.

1055 carbon steel

The carbon content and relatively low proportions of other substances in this steel make it a very stable material and free from the brittleness inherent in most high carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that are meant to have high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes and swords.
