This type of sword was generally reserved for the strongest warriors of ancient China, as some specimens weighed more than 2.5 kg! The long, heavy blade covered a wide swath of ground and could thus break down the defenses of enemy soldiers who were armed with shorter, lighter weapons. It was also ideal for defending narrow areas such as doorways and hallways, if there was enough space.
The Cold Steel® version is a little lighter than some original examples, so it can be used with one or two hands. The battle-proven blade is paired with a cast brass guard and pommel, which are adorned with elaborate relief decoration. The beautiful wooden handle is wrapped with tight braided cord.
A rosewood sheath completes the set. It is decorated with decorative brass fittings in the same style as the guard and pommel.
