The 535BK-4 is a premium variant of the Bugout model, naturally the higher price range means the 535BK-4 receives some pretty comprehensive aesthetic and performance upgrades.
The blade steel is M390, a Bohler-Uddeholm formulation that is ubiquitous on high-end knives, perhaps more common these days than S35VN. In terms of performance, the M390 outperforms the S30V used on the standard Bugout, with higher edge life, very fine grain structure and high corrosion resistance. The black coating of the blade is more a fashion statement than a rust prophylaxis, it contrasts nicely with the red anodized thumb knob and matches the other discreet shades of the handle.
Speaking of which, the 535BK-4's grip scales are contoured aluminum with a die-cut sunburst pattern; all peripherals are black, including the pocket clip, and the 535BK-4 weighs 70 grams. It's a bit more than the original Bugout, but still light enough to qualify as a lightweight knife.
