In June 2006, the 185th Reconnaissance and Target Acquisition Regiment "FOLGORE" (185th RAO) requested Extrema Ratio to develop a special knife based on MIL SPEC specifications for particular operational activities.
The result is the RAO, not a large folding knife but a compact survival and work knife with a heavy and sturdy blade. The opening locking mechanism is particularly solid because it is assisted by a safety system which transforms it into a real fixed blade.
The blade can be opened and closed with both hands by operating the side ends of the blade locking pin to minimize the risk of self-harm during operation. The blade, due to its weight, is in fact a real guillotine.
The locking mechanism is 100% waterproof.
Due to the intensive use and the violence of the blows caused, a threaded steel pin has been applied, which is housed in the two holes of the anticorodal solid aluminum handle guard. This increases the solidity of the whole.
When the pin is screwed in, it is placed between the blade and the user's fingers and has a significant psychological effect.
The sheath is an essential element of the system because, in addition to housing a diamond resharpener, it allows the knife to be worn open, held by a strap with a double clip, or closed in the front pocket. The MOLLE sheath attachment system allows the user to wear it on tactical vests and general belts.
