While cutting events with Japanese swords have enjoyed great popularity for several decades - also in the form of competitions - until recently, little or no attention was paid to exploring the cutting potential of Western swords. In view of the growing interest, Cold Steel® wants to give a boost to this discipline and now offers its own sword for cutting trial tournaments.
The Cold Steel® competition sword is loosely modeled after the Arbedo sword and is designed for cutting competitions involving ropes, mail rolls, tatami mats and other similar "soft" materials. The thin, wide double-edged blade, made from 1055 carbon steel, has been hardened and is fully sharpened and polished.
The sturdy, leather-covered wooden handle allows the competition saber to be wielded with one or two hands and guarantees maximum control and leverage, even for the most demanding tricks. To protect your fingers and repel enemy blades, the sword is equipped with a simple and effective steel transverse guard. A beautiful diamond-shaped flared steel pommel provides a good counterweight to the wide blade.
Delivery includes a sturdy scabbard made of durable black leather, with a steel clevis and muzzle plate.
1055 carbon steel
The carbon content and relatively low proportions of other substances in this steel make it a very stable material, free from the brittleness inherent in most high carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that are meant to have high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes and swords.
