The world's best martial artists have long known a simple truth: If you want to become reasonably good at wielding a fighting instrument, you must put in the effort to learn the best fighting techniques, footwork, and basic stances.

However, if you want to become a master at this, you will eventually need to start training with real weapons.

If, for example, your ultimate goal is to wield a sharp sword safely and effectively, you should train with a sword that approximates the size, feel, and weight of a real blade, while minimizing the possibility of causing serious, permanent or fatal injury to you or your training partner.

This concept was implemented by the ancient Romans, who used blunt wooden swords to train their gladiators and soldiers.
Japanese samurai used a wooden training sword called a bokken.

A bokken was made from the super strong wood of Japanese white oak, a wood they called Kashi. This type of wooden saber is an elegant solution to a thorny problem. In addition, it is effective enough to still be used today.

But authentic Kashi wooden bokkens become quite expensive. The problem is also that a wooden training weapon can rot, crack, splinter and ultimately become useless.

Cold Steel's solution to these dilemmas was to design a range of affordable, wear-resistant synthetic substitutes.
