L'airsoft, plus qu'une discipline, une passion-T.A DEFENSE

Airsoft, more than a discipline, a passion

Before we begin, we will cover the following points:

- Is airsoft a sport ?

- What is CQB?

- What are the different firing modes of an airsoft replica?

- What are the different measures in airsoft?

- How to choose your marbles according to your replica?

- What outfit to wear for airsoft?

A game of airsoft consists of forming two or more teams who will then shoot at each other using airsoft replicas and plastic balls. Indeed, in appearance they are similar to firearms that you may know, such as the AK-47, the MP5 and even more common, the AR15 replicas. However, they are not lethal, protections are worn and used during airsoft sessions so that a plastic ball cannot hit your eyes or even reach your mouth. Because yes, these replicas are not lethal, but they require a minimum of precaution and this is why the legislation limits the power of these airsoft weapons to 2 Joules, beyond this power, France considers these models as weapons of category D (up to 20 joules)

Is airsoft a sport ?

Unfortunately airsoft is not yet considered as a sport by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, but more as a leisure activity, or even as a "sporting leisure activity", exactly like paintball, certainly because of the fact that it This field is not sufficiently known and practiced by the general public. There is, however, a licensing system around a federation.

What is CQB?

Called CQB or CQC, this acronym means “Close-Quarters Battle” or “Close-Quarters Combat”. This is an offensive engagement with weapons at close range, but can also refer to unarmed combat. CQB includes submachine guns, rifles and handguns in airsoft. Without forgetting that this discipline was primarily developed by the armed forces in order to apprehend suspects or neutralize hostile individuals in restricted spaces.

What are the different firing modes of an airsoft gun?

  • Step by step

Spring: a spring is present within the structure of the airsoft replica and it is this which will be responsible for propelling the ball. Its use is simple but redundant, with this shooting mode you can only fire single shot and after manual rearming, several handguns, precision rifles, shotguns as well as certain long replicas are equipped with it. After each shot, you will need to reload your model by pulling back the slide of your gun, then repeat the action to fire several times in a row. This mode offers you significant stability and precision but causes a lack of responsiveness due to the need to reload with each shot.

  • Semi-automatic

GBB (Gas Blowback), GNB (Gas Non Blowback), CO2, AEG (Automatic Electric Gun), AEP (Automatic Electric Pistol): This firing mode works with gas, CO2 and battery, it will allow you to shoot every time you pull the trigger without having to reload each time like the Spring models. It is a mode quite appreciated by airsofters for its precision, its stability and its non-abusive consumption of balls , but also by the organizers of airsoft sessions, since it allows them to regulate the power of the various replicas used by the players.

  • Full Automatic

AEG: Thanks to this mode you will shoot continuously, while maintaining pressure on the trigger. It allows players to be "aggressive" on the field, to carry out covering shots if your colleague is required to make strategic moves for your team or to anticipate the movements of your opponents, they will only have the choice to take cover for fear of being eliminated and leaving the base, the spawn. This is the bane of airsoft session organizations, because it is considered too powerful if the replica were to exceed 350 FPS. Despite this, this mode is advantageous thanks to its high rate of fire, the psychological effect it provides, the adrenaline for the shooter but also the pressure endured by the target and serves to cover your teammates. However, Full Auto does not facilitate precision and is very rarely allowed during airsoft sessions.

What are the different measures in airsoft?

  • FPS: means “Feet per second” and designates the speed of the ball once projected by the replica. It is calculated according to the power of the replica but also according to the weight of the balls used. In addition, its calculation is carried out as soon as the ball exits the barrel.
  • m/s: this is a more meaningful variant of FPS, since one m/s is equivalent to approximately 3.28 FPS and conversely, 1 FPS is equivalent to 0.305 m/s.
  • Joules: it allows you to quantify the power of energy, i.e. 1 Joule represents the quantity of energy provided by 1 Watt for 1 second. The idea is that the higher the joules, the more powerful and painful the aftershock will be. The limit for soft air is commonly between 1 and 1.5 joules.

How to choose your marbles based on your replica?

It is recommended to use beads of :

- 0.20 to 0.25g for guns

- 0.25 to 0.28g for assault rifles

- 0.30 to 0.43g for sniper rifles

- approximately 0.15g for pomegranates

It is good to remember how the weight of your balls must be perfectly suited to your replica. Indeed, the wrong weight can lead to bad trajectories and can falsify your precision. However, note that the higher the FPS and Joules of your replica, the more you can increase the weight of your balls.

Many airsoft sessions take place outdoors and therefore in nature, the importance of this discipline is to enjoy it but an alternative exists so as not to pollute the environment where you play after your visit. Biodegradable beads make no difference to non-biodegradable ones, except that they do not pollute and can be purchased at a lower cost.

What to wear for airsoft?

Most airsoft players opt for military clothing, in green, black and tan colors or in fairly sober colors. Indeed, if you want to "flank" your opponents, wearing bright colors will not help you blend into the background and they will see you coming from miles around.

They are also equipped with protection such as a bulletproof vest with MOLLE loops, in order to carry all the equipment necessary for playing, such as magazines for example. You can also opt for a holster belt , which will allow you to store your secondary weapon, such as your handgun for example. In addition, gloves , glasses or even a mask to protect your mouth are also recommended.
