With its shock resistance as well as its various features, G-Shock inspires people to follow their own path, without worrying about the barriers that one might encounter.

To better understand how G-Shock got here we have to go back to this precise moment…

How did G-Shock come to be?

If to this day, the G-Shock brand has this reputation and is still up to date, it is partly thanks to Mr. Kikuo Ibe, the creator of the brand.

One day like any other, Kikuo Ibe went to his workplace, Casio. He wore a watch on his wrist, the one his father had given him, it was of great value to him. Later that day, Kikuo Ibe dropped his watch on the ground and it was completely unusable. After this event, Kikuo Ibe decided to create a range of unbreakable watches! He wanted to make his watches the strongest on the market. He had this concept well before, but this incident reinforced this idea and pushed him to develop the G-Shock range, which is still relevant to this day.

Now, Kikuo Ibe is leveraging its 35 years of expertise by constantly innovating, thanks to G-Shock watches.

  • His creation

The name G-Shock takes its name from Gravitational Shock and was created in 1983. It is a line of Japanese watches, owned by Casio. They were developed with the aim of being very resistant or even "unbreakable", they can endure a lot of tests and resist extreme conditions, this is the reason why they are used for military use, for professionals or for those who practice extreme sports.

  • Their particularities

Most watches are made from quartz, they can be with digital, analog or mixed display. Quartz is one of G-Shock's main features to make their watches "unbreakable". This choice is explained by the precision as well as the resistance to shock, which this material offers, in order to replace this with the mechanical movements of a classic watch.

Nowadays, G-Shock watches are robust enough to withstand shock, vibration and deep water immersion. Numerous collaborations have taken place with personnel at significant risk, such as: firefighters, aviation units as well as naval units.

But above all, what makes G-Shock strong is its diverse and varied functionalities, making their watches versatile and can be described as tools. Indeed, many so-called classic features have been added to their models: time, alarm clock, stopwatch, countdown and lighting. But G-Shock wasn’t content with just that! Some models also offer: internal memory that can store data, a calendar, a world clock, automatic synchronization based on atomic clocks and the GPS network, solar operation, Bluetooth, a digital compass, a thermometer as well as a barometer/altimeter.

Are G-Shock watches as durable as they say?

The answer is yes ! Get ready because what follows will leave you speechless. Indeed, G-Shock watches truly live up to their reputation as “unbreakable” watches.

So much so that a G-Shock watch was entered into the Guinness World Record.

On December 12, 2017, the brand was awarded a record thanks to its models, that of the most resistant watch having withstood the crushing of an imposing heavy weight equivalent to 24.97 tonnes, or almost 25 tonnes! This is the first time that a watch of this magnitude has been able to accomplish a feat of this kind. And if this watch was able to support such a heavy weight, then imagine what you could do with yours, without having the fear of making it obsolete.

On which wrist should you wear your watch?

Preferably it was indirectly agreed that one's watch be worn on the wrist opposite the writing hand, so as not to cause discomfort during practice. But also that our "strong hand" would experience shocks or friction more regularly and would therefore be worn on the opposite wrist so as not to damage it.

Generally the watch is worn on the left wrist, for the good reason that 90% of the population is right-handed.
